Here's a rather extreme case of mental/spiritual sadistic torture to a dog!!! To keep someone in a cage that's not much bigger than her body from birth to her 15th birthday...is just mind exploding!!! I'm told the owner has rejected all alternatives including buying her, building her a nice little house with runners with grass to walk on, all free of charge to him, etc. I'm also told the case (but not the dog unfortunately) has been turned over to the HS in Dunkirk.

Let's call and write - politely please - to all the names and addies at the end here begging them to free this poor soul FIRST, then on with punishing the owner to the absolute maximum and prohibiting him from going ever near any animals at all! Below is a compilation of some of the many msgs I received as well as calling/writing info. Adela

Unfortunately this owner's act is not illegal....[Time to change this outrageous law]

The New York State shelter law is as follows, SO IT APPEARS THAT PENNING LIKE THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW due to improper shelter, the dog's breed, NYS climate, and age/condition of the dog:

(2) FROM: Melgraj2@aol.com I am asking everyone to send copies to Oprah, to your local papers - we need to get this poor dog out of her prison and highlight the unbelievable and unnecessary cruelty of confining a dog in a crate or on a chain. This is absolutely outrageous!!! I have taken these contacts for Oprah from her shows on Puppy mills : http://www2.oprah.com...

You can also post comments on the discussion board at the bottom of the promo page I have linked to, above. www2.oprah.com/email/tows/email_tows_main.jhtml

Here is a great resource for looking up MEDIA CONTACT INFORMATION, at local and national levels. Every activist should save this link: http://www.congress.o...

Peppy is a 15 year old Husky who has been confined to a metal cage her entire life. She has never felt the grass between her toes, she walks on an open grate, and her health is deteriorating. She has no one to talk to, no real warm shelter during New York's freezing temperatures.
She needs out, and we need to effectively contact the people below to get the word out please write to the media outlets, pass this on to everyone you know to put the pressure on the officials who care to do nothing.

Her picture, again, is here:

Hi Adela,

The underlines might have something to do with the paragraph below. The link doesnt work. Perhaps you can go back in and fix the url link first and then the rest will fix its self.

FIX THE LINK BELOW:

The New York State shelter law is as follows, SO IT APPEARS THAT PENNING LIKE THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW due to improper shelter, the dog's breed, NYS climate, and age/condition of the dog:
http://www.animalla...... w.info/statutes/ stusnyag_ mkts332_379. htm#s365

PS. Thanks for posting this information for us. What a shame this dog has never been able to run free or even feel grass between its toes. I will sign and forward this petiton.

Can you Please try to fix the link so that I can copy and paste this and pass it on. Thanks.

Hi Adela,

I was checking out your links, most of them dont work at all. But the Yahoo one does and I found this information on their message board under the Husky Link:

The real deal!

Ok I actually talked to the owner himself. A very nice gentleman that
had no problem answering questions of mine even though I am just a
stranger to him.

First and for most Peppy is NOT being abused in any way!!! The
pictures that are seen here are not showing the whole inclosure in
anyway giving the false impression that Peppy is being kept in an
oversized rabbit hutch when that is not the case at all. The "cage"
or kennel is an above ground 12' by 4' area. It has a separate area
that is insulated and has a secure door that she opens by pushing it
so that no snow, or rain can get in there. She has hay provided
during the winter months and currently has a thick dog bed that
covers the inside of her in closed dog house. The advantages to an
above ground inclosure is she cannot get attacked by stray, loose
dogs, or by other animals. She isn't forced to stand in her own urine
or feces, and she is not left open to parasites that could feast on
her if she was touching the ground.

She was seen by her vet today. She is in great condition. Yes she
does have arthritis but she IS 15 years old. She does come out of her
cage a few times a day and goes for walks.

While I was there alone the Chaut. Co. executor was there as he had
received many phone calls, e-mails from people as far away as
California. So for those of you who did not think anyone was
listening they were! The Chaut. Co. cruelty investigator Ted did go
out and talk with the owner. The Chaut. Co. humane society did have
personal as well as a vet tech come out to Peppy's house and look her
over verifying that she is indeed healthy. They had the owner Jim
take her out of her kennel and walk her. Photographs were taken. She
had a bowl of fresh water and food and there wasn't so much as a drop
of poo underneath her kennel. Also this issue was addressed three
years ago, Ted was there and proved then that she was well cared for
and not being mistreated in any way.

Please don't scream neglect here as this is not the case, but dont
think that your calls werent addressed either. The Humane society
went above and beyond what is expected or necessary and they should
be praised for their efforts! Please dont judge this man because he
chooses to have his dog in an above ground inclosure as opposed to
tying her to a tree with a dog house. Everyone has different views on
how one should care for their pets, but Peppy is not being
mistreated. That should be what really matters, not where she sleeps
and spends part of her days. When I worked for the humane society
when I was younger, there were reports of huskys tied out to plastic
55 gallon drums in the middle of winter with no real protection from
the elements. Now that is cruel... Please people if you re-post
anything make sure it is the truth. It is too easy to get caught up
in emotion by looking at a very small piece of the picture. Now if
everyone had seen a picture of the whole cage I am sure at least half
it not more would not be in such an uproar here.

Here is a link to the site showing more on the above ground kennel
that she is being housed in. Do remember that the ones showed here
are smaller than the one she is living in.

I will try to get a copy of the photos taken by the humane society
and I will post them as well. Thank you for reading this!

Nicoles, Yahoo Post:

I tried to find this information on SNOPES as well and there isnt anything listed there. I was just wondering if this was indeed checked out already or not? It would be great if this Nicole was to follow through and show us the actual photos that were taken as well.

PS. Dont get me wrong, I dont think any animal at all should be treated inhumanely but I also would like to get all the facts before I jump that gun as well. If this is true, I want to make sure this guy gets the books thrown at him for doing what he has done to PEPPY for 15 years. I just want to know if she gets out and does walk this dog at all? Has she ever touched grass before or the ground at all for that matter? Has she ever seen the inside of a house at all? Hmm...These are questions one might need to find out as well.

Hi and thanks Josie for showing me this new development. First, yes, some of the links didn't work on me either and it seems I mistakenly copied the bad ones. I received many messages and tried to compile the core of the matter plus the links for this posting. I'll try to get the links that did work.

As to Nicole, I don't recognize her name. Not from my list. She seems to be the only one who thinks an animal is okay to spend an entire life in a cage! Why not keep her inside the home where, as part of the family, the dog belongs???

However none of us in my list ever said that the dog was PHYSICALLY suffering. We complained the fact that this little soul had to exist in a cage not much larger than her body...and ALONE! Definitely a psychological torture! Even the photo she showed here isn't much larger than the dog's body...a tremendous claustrophobia for anyone - human or nonhuman!

The owner, I learned, is a sled dog musher (see what this "sport" really is here: http://www.helpsleddo..., and Peppy was USED for this. He said he didn't want him to play with other dogs...is he planning on USING her in sledding AGAIN and therefore doesn't want her to mellow by socializing with other dogs or living indoors with her (supposedly) family??? Which also brings to mind - could Nicole be a sleddog sympathizer if not a musher herself? After all, some "animal welfare" persons still say they love horse racing, breed dogs, etc...

Nevertheless, I'll send Nicole's msg to my list and see what the others say. I'll get back to you as soon as I have comments and with links that hopefully work. :o)

Thanks again. Adela
