There is going to be a vote, poll whatever you call it by the yarra city council council to decide whether they should make the desexing of cats compulsory.
I am against the idea and think that the cats should be able to do whatever the cat wants to and opt for desexing of the councillors who wanted to have the cats desexed. I write this thread hoping people could at least spread the word of this council meeting that is about to take place and rock up to fitzroy town hall, corner of Napier and Moor Streets. please contact me at rave88729@gmail.com for further enquiries or at least let me know if you are rocking up Two emails regarding compulsory desexing of cats in yarra city. "Residents The Socialist Party is leading the charge on Yarra Council to introduce the compulsory desexing of cats. At the moment 100 cats a day are being put down in Melbourne due to over-breeding. A coalition of 9 organisations such as the RSPCA, the Lost Dogs Home and the Cat Protection Society are pushing for this change. On Monday night Yarra Councillors were presented with an officers' report that opposed the introduction of compulsory desexing. Unfortunately officers had not consulted with the three Victorian Councils that had already moved in this direction or any of the animal welfare organisations. I successfully moved that the report be deferred until this was done. In the meantime there continues to be a steady stream of letters to the local papers and to Councillors supporting the compulsory desexing of cats." "Residents Can you come to Yarra Council this Tuesday, 7.30pm? The vote to decide on whether or not Yarra should introduce compulsory desexing of cats is taking place. I had the report deferred at a Committee meeting last Monday, subject to liason with cat welfare groups and the three Councils that have already moved in this direction. We thought this would take weeks, but the report is up on Tuesday, with cursory extra work done, with the same recommendation - no to compulsory cat desexing, instead to more 'community education' - as if that will work. I am lobbying the three Green Councillors to do the right thing, plus the Independents. Please email them asap (email addresses below) and come to the meeting at Fitzroy Town Hall, Napier St. Green Cllr Jenny Farrar: farrarj@yarracity.vic.gov.au Green Cllr Kathleen Maltzahn: maltzahnk@yarracity.vic.gov.au Green Cllr Gurm Sekhon: sekhong@yarracity.vic.gov.au Independent Cllr Jackie Fristacky: fristackyj@yarracity.vic.gov.au Independent Cllr Judy Morton: mortonj@yarracity.vic.gov.au" |
